As we approach the upcoming election, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the political climate, the division in our nation, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Many of us may feel frustrated, perhaps even weary, wondering if our efforts, our prayers, and our votes truly make a difference. But in Galatians 6:7-10, God’s Word offers us a timely reminder:
"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Galatians 6:7-10, NIV)
This passage provides three key points of encouragement and motivation for us as believers, especially in the face of the upcoming election:
God Will Not Be Mocked (v. 7):
We can take heart that God is sovereign, and His justice is sure. No matter how chaotic or unfair things may seem in the world, we are reminded that ultimately, everyone will reap what they have sown. Corruption, lies, and deceit will not stand before God’s throne. He is watching, and His justice will prevail in His perfect timing. This should give us confidence, knowing that God will bring all things to light.
Persevere in Doing Good (v. 9):
As Christians, we are called to be the salt and light of the world, even when it’s difficult. We may feel weary at times, tempted to withdraw from the political sphere or give in to hopelessness. But Galatians reminds us not to grow weary. It may seem like our small acts of righteousness, integrity, and kindness don’t make an immediate difference—but God assures us that they do. Every good deed sown in His name will bear fruit in due time. Now, more than ever, we need to press on, standing firm in our faith and living out our values.
Seize Every Opportunity to Do Good (v. 10):
The upcoming election is one of those opportunities where we can actively live out our faith. By voting with a heart aligned with God’s truth, we are sowing seeds of righteousness. By engaging in respectful conversations with others, praying for our leaders, and demonstrating love toward all, we participate in God’s work of transforming hearts and minds. We are called to do good—not just for ourselves, but for all people, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. This is a chance to be a witness to the power of God’s grace and His love for justice.
As we prepare to cast our votes and as we engage with those around us, let us do so with a spirit of perseverance, anchored in the truth that God is in control. Though we may not always see immediate results, we can trust that God is working behind the scenes. He is faithful to bring about a harvest in His timing if we do not give up.
So, let us continue to do good—to pray, to vote, to speak truth, and to love—knowing that our hope is not in human institutions but in the unshakable kingdom of God. We may be citizens of this country, but our ultimate citizenship is in heaven.
